(iUniverse) February 22, 2010 — Since writing his first novel, West of Paradise Run, author J.J.R. Ramey has matured and learned so much about writing he felt compelled to keep the saga alive about a young man’s dream of freedom for his people during the last desperate days of the Civil War (1861-1865).

The original edition of the novel, published by Ballantine Books, a division of Random House, is now re-released under the Authors Guild iUniverse Back-in-Print program. Carolle Desroches of imagineroche.com designed the new cover with artwork by Hugo Bravo of bravoillustrations.com. Ramey says, “I cannot wait for folks to read this book.”

The story begins on March 1, 1865, by order of Brigadier General Hollingsworth Williams when Shelby is sent on a vital intelligence mission to scout territories into Texas while carrying a secret message. WCBS Radio Book Beat reporter Don Swaim says it best: “Shelby encounters outlaws, Indians, lynch mobs, racist bullies, crooked sheriffs, saloon gals, and all the cliffhangers you could ask for….”

Ramey conducted extensive Civil War research at many libraries including historical collections at The New York Public Library and the Schomberg Center for Research in New York City’s Harlem area.

“No writer can ever know all there is about crafting a story and my academic experience at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee and at the College of New Rochelle in New York prepared me to hone my craft,” Ramey said.

Ramey will be touring this winter, spring, and summer to promote West of Paradise Run, and deliver his message about achieving success as a motivational speaker. He says, “I am also hoping to make the Shelby story into a film to bring the story to the world.”

J.J.R. has appeared on WCBS Newsradio 880, CNBC, and also has also scheduled appearances in Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Baltimore, and New York City.

In addition to West of Paradise Run, Ramey has written several other books including ‘Shelby’s Ghost, the second book in the Shelby Western Series, and several other books for which he is looking to publish in 2010.
